2018 starts off great with the handing in of the building permit for a new Calvin Klein shop at the Rotterdam State Monument shoppingstreet Lijnbaan. Originally designed by Van den Broek en Bakema and openend in 1953, this first modernistic pedestrian only shopping street in the world was characterised by a rigid concept of ‘unity through diversity’. The whole street is built up of articulated partition walls on a 6,6 or 8,8 meter grid in between which shopowners could express their individuality withouth losing the overall stark appearance of the complex. Great to add another addition to this never ending story of shops coming and going.
